The Copper Cove Association has taken no position on the rate increase but rather wants our members to understand the proposal and voice their opinion as they choose.

Recently a town hall meeting was held but unfortunately only about 50 people attended. We are providing this link to the full presentation by CCWD General Manager Dave Eggerton. Click here for the link. Eggerton said the single biggest reason for the rate increase was the cost for CCWD to comply with new environmental laws placed on the District by the State of California which were passed by the State Legislature. Local agencies must comply with those laws or face legal action.

We are providing this link to the rate increase proposal. You will note that you can send your opinion on the rate increase. According to the District “The CCWD Board of Directors will consider all protests against the proposed water and wastewater rate changes. If a majority of the affected property owners file protests, the proposed rate changes will not be imposed. Protests filed by tenants will not be valid or counted. Protests must be submitted in writing, even if you plan to attend the public hearing.”

After probably 40-50 years of use, the Copper Cove Association has rebuilt much of the boat launch ramp. P.The reconstruction began February 17, 2018, early Saturday morning. But, contractors soon found it was a bigger job to repair. The ramp was probably only about 2-3 inches thick in certain places and the support structure below was eroded and was unable to support the extension. Additional work will begin this week to provide additional footings and structure. Thanks to the help our engineering and construction firm DRM Construction the project was completed on time and on budget. We appreciate CCA member Devin McGee whose company completed this job of great importance to our community.

The new ramp will be available in early May as the lake level rises.

THE KIVA RAMP BEFORE CONSTRUCTION

This is a photo of the ramp prior to any construction. Over the decades, boulders have been dumped to reduce erosion. In order to extend the ramp 4 feet, all of the rocks had to be removed. Then a strong foundation could be built for the ramp extension.

THE RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT BEGINS

The contractors here began removing all the rocks seen in photo #1. The concrete and rebar had to be saw cut so the new extension could be added.

CONTRACTORS DISCOVER THE RAMP IS ABOUT 3 INCHES THICK

In the process of demolition, contractors found portions of the ramp were just 2-3 inches thick.

THE RAMP AFTER INITIAL CLEAN UP FOR RAMP EXTENSION CONSTRUCTION

After initial demolition and preparation of the ramp for the next phase, contractors discover that additional work needs to take place to provide a strong foundation for the ramp. New footings need to be installed to provide support for the new ramp above.

DEMOLITION COMPLETED

The old ramp section that was crumbling was removed. A careful concrete saw cut was made to provide a smooth transition to the new ramp extension, which will run much deeper into the lake.
