Lake Tulloch to have its own “Submarine”?

An Example of a Deep Water Diving Drone

The Sonora Union Democrat has published a story  indicating that Calaveras County may soon have its own unmanned underwater craft, “submarine”, to explore the bottom of county lakes including Lake Tulloch.  According to the newspaper report: “A $118,000 underwater remotely operated vehicle, equipped with 130-degree sonar and a high-resolution video camera, is set to revolutionize underwater searches in the Mother Lode.” Click here to read the story.

This year, the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office Dive and Recovery Team received a $127,000 grant from the California Division of Boating and Waterways to acquire the cutting-edge technology.

This will be an important new tool for a host of purposes including handle emergencies such as the several vehicles that have plunged into Lake Tulloch on the O’Byrnes Ferry Bridge.
